Update on Chelemaque

Chelemaque Stamand, our cleft palate baby, was finally able to get the first of his reparative surgeries out in Port au Prince at the Bernard Meves hospital on November 5, thanks to a special surgery team who came in.  He will need at least one more surgery and probably several checkups, but this is progress...praise the Lord!
Please keep this little guy in your prayers, as he still has a hard road ahead of him.  He had a fairly severe case of pneumonia right after his surgery, but seems to be doing better now.  I'll try to keep you up to date as we hear back from them how things are going.
Chelemaque, with a spunky little scowl as he faces the camera a few days after surgery. :)

Gender: Male
Caregiver: (Aunt) Venise Ogese
Birth Date: August 27, 2015
Beginning Weight: 3.56 kg
Current Weight as of January 2016: 7.34 kg

Information: Emanuel's mom died of unknown causes, possibly infection, when he was just four days old.  The family doesn't know where his dad is, and their ashamed ducking of heads when we ask about him likely implies that he was not married to Emanuel's mother.  Emanuel's aunt came to us with the baby, asking if we could help.  So far, Emanuel is a healthy and happy little guy, and with your help, we'd like to see him grow into a toddler that way.

Stamand, Chelemaque

SPONSORED

These piercing little eyes have already seen some hard times, even at less than three months old.  Chelemaque Stamand  was born with a cleft palate, which not only means a slim chance of getting enough nutrition, but it also means his Mama spends hours each day with a dropper, trying to get those nutrients into his little tummy without drowning him.  Nursing was out of the question, and his parents were running out of money to buy formula when they came to the clinic.  Reparative surgery has to wait until he is a few months along in life, and even then it will be expensive.  The nurses at clinic are working to make the connections to get his surgery done, but until that can happen, he's on Milk Program.

Rose-Mika Geffrand

Meet Rose-mika Geffrand, a little bundle of cuteness whose Mama was very sick and had to be on meds that made it impossible for her to nurse her little one.  An aunt brought the baby to us to see if we could help, as they were poor and had medical bills to worry about, never mind expensive baby formula.
After a month on the program, Rose-mika is gaining well, and on her way to a new look...chubbiness! :)

Information: Guillande's mom died just a few days after she was born, and her dad lives in Leogane, a zone far away from Guillande and her grandmother.  When Guillande was left alone, her grandmother came to the rescue, but she didn't have enough money to buy formula, so she came to the clinic to ask for help.  At 18 days old, Guillande was a healthy little girl with no mommy; now, thanks to your support, she has a future.

Information:  Keson is a healthy little munchkin, but his mommy died just a few days after he was born.  His dad seems to have checked out of the picture, but his grandma cared, so she came to see if we could help.  She doesn't have much money, but it's obvious that she cares about "her" little guy, and is very grateful to be able to feed him formula that she couldn't afford on her own.

Information:  Little Jessica Mercy's name stands in strange irony to her beginning in life....or maybe not.  She was born to a single 16-year-old girl who had some queer spiritual issues and didn't have the wherewithal to care for her baby.  When Jessica was only a few months old, her mom suddenly quit nursing her altogether and other relatives came to the clinic asking for help.  She is still small for her age, but it looks like God has something special for this little "Mercy".
